Radnor House SchoolFor this exciting and challenging project, we created a new Sixth Form Common Room at Radner House School. The school is located within a conservation area on the River Thames in Twickenham, and on the site of a house built by the poet Alexander Pope.
Client: Radner House School
Project: Sixth Form Common Room
Lead Consultant: Martin Edwards Architects
As part of this complex project we designed and installed a new structural floor within the existing double height Chapel to create the space for the new facility. The new space retains many of the existing feature of the chapel including vaulted ceilings, windows and feature light fittings. Access to the new floor is through the existing Juliet balcony near to the school library and the sweeping purpose made feature staircase linking the new level with the remainder of the school.
The ground floor of the Chapel was then converted into a dedicated Drama Studio with full black-out facilities and a state of the art Music Room for our Performing Arts Faculty.
As well as the physical constraints the project was carried out within a working school and the restrictions that are therefore imposed.
Just a short note to say thanks to the team ……
I know it was a challenging project in a tight timescale so a sterling effort, well done.
